Updated: Nov 24, 2022

For s student to be eligible to apply for the Rise to Shine Education Foundations’ (RTSEF)scholarship, they have to meet the following criteria:

  • Must have sat the Kenya Certificate of Primary Education (KCPE) examination

  • Must have completed their KCPE in a public Primary School

  • Must meet the RTSEF standards of Financial Need

  • KCPE: 325 marks or above

After the students make scholarship applications, the students are categorized in 3 different pools:

  • Total orphans

  • Partial orphans

  • Very needy (These are students with both parents)

In each pool, the students are selected based on their need considering their performance.

Eligibility

The program targets achieving yet needy (orphan or vulnerable) students identified by assessing their performance at the nationally administered Kenya Certificate of Primary Education examinations (KCPE).

(RTSEF) uses the following as the selection criteria for the scholarship:

  1. Academically Promising – top 5 percentile performing students in their district in The Kenya Certificate of Primary Education (KCPE) examination.

  2. Orphans or Vulnerable Children (as defined below);

  • Children who have lost one or both parents and have no guardian or sponsor to provide for their education

  • Children whose parents are physically or mentally disabled and are unable to educate their children.

  • Children whose parents are living with HIV/AIDS or other chronic debilitating illness and are unable to educate their children

  • Children from families affected by natural disasters such as flooding, drought, and famine or civil conflict and are unable to educate their children

  • Children who have suffered neglect and/or abandonment

  • Children with parents living under extreme poverty and are unable to educate their children

In the just concluded the students showed up in large numbers for the interviews from different villages. They all showed up because this was a promising way for them to attend school. Hope was plastered on their faces as they did the scholarship interviews.

The interviews were held in the following locations:

  • Siaya

  • Seme

  • Katito

  • Asumbi

  • Awendo

  • Muhuru bay

  • Mfangano Island ( Mulundu, Ringiti, Takawiri, Rusinga and Kiwa)

Here are some of the images from the different areas;

In my assessment, all of them did very well, and all of them are deserving of the scholarship. Yet only very few of them will get the scholarship. Thanks to our sponsors.

Only a few will get a chance to be sponsored with Rise to Shine Education Foundation. Yet there are glaring consequences of the students missing out on school:

  • Child marriage

  • Early pregnancies

Call for action:

We invite you to be our sponsor and see a child through high school.
